Protect Water Quality: If you wash your car at the car wash, the dirty water goes to the water treatment plant, but if you wash your car at home or drain your chlorinated swimming pool, do it on the lawn so soaps and chemicals don't go into stormwater drains, which lead directly into our streams and lakes. If you have to use fertilizer, use a low phosphorous fertilizer and do it in the fall, for the least harmful impact on our water system.
